The City of Cebu is the capital city of Cebu province and the second most important city in the Philippine Islands, and also the oldest city
in the country.
Cebu City on the Island of Cebu is located in the central part of the country which is known as the Visayas. Cebu City is also known as the "queen city of the south". The oldest street in the Philippines {Colon Street}, is located in the downtown area of Cebu City called "Colon". Magellan first landed in Cebu in 1521 and he was also killed there later on in a conflict with the Local tribe's Chief. There is a shrine to him located on the nearby island of Mactan which is where the Cebu airport is located. Mactan is just a few minutes from Cebu City connected by two bridges. Cebu Island is about 1,702 square miles in land area. Cebu Island is located between Leyte and Negros islands.

Cebu City is located on the eastern shore of Cebu Island, and the first Spanish settlement in the Philippines was located there. Cebu City is the Philippines' main domestic shipping port, and is home to more than 80% of the country's shipping companies. Cebu has the second largest amount of international flights in the Philippine Islands after the capital, Manila. Cebu is a significant center of commerce, trade and industry in the Visayas, and Mindanao region. Cebu City has a population of about 1,000,000 people and approximately another 2,000,000 on the rest of the island. Cebu City is at the center of a metropolitan area called Metro Cebu, which includes other cities such as Mandaue, Toledo and Lapu-Lapu city as well as others. Metro Cebu has a total population of about 2million people.
Cebu City and its suburbs have become very popular in recent years for foreigners who are either vacationing, living there, or retiring. The Local supermarkets have for many years had a very large assortment of western imported foods especially American. From cereals, meats, cold cuts and frozen pizza to Philadelphia brand cream cheese! The malls such As Ayala Mall located in the Lahug area of Cebu City is as beautiful a mall as you could find anywhere in the world of better. The shops have all European and American brands as well as local. More restaurants are located in these malls than you can count and not to leave out good Ole McDonald and KFC!
There have been beautiful subdivisions springing up all over metro Cebu geared for the foreigner. They must be seen to be appreciated. They are sprinkled with swaying palms and coconut tress and beautifully landscaped. One could never expect to find the equivalent in the west especially for the money. These subdivisions are the the retiree as well as everyone else. These subdivisions all have 24 hour armed security. In nearby Mactan Island there are town houses and subdivisions right near or on the beach. This is also true for other parts of the main Cebu Island not so far from Cebu City.
So many natural wonders can be found in Cebu, like the beautiful pristine, white sand beaches in Mactan, Badian, Malapascua and Bantayan. There are great diving spots with corals of splendid delight like that in Maribago Bluewaters and Moalboal. In Moalboal, you can walk right off the beach and into the water to scuba dive or snorkel. You can bask in Cebu's temperate tropical weather that is year round. Cebu is both the old and the new. A mixture of the exotic east and modern west, from great nightlife to fine dining. Restaurants are readily found along with clubs and bars where you can get boogie or chill out. The Many coffee shops such as Starbucks and other American and local outlets are abundant.
